TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE 2026
XM Login Guide 2026: Fix MT4/MT5 & Members Area Problems
"Invalid account" is the single most common XM login error, and it almost always comes down to one of four fixable causes. This guide walks through logging into MT4, MT5, the Members Area, and the mobile app — plus exactly how to fix each error message you might encounter.
📋 Quick Facts — XM Login
- MT4/MT5 and Members Area use your numeric account number, not email
- The mobile app uses your email instead — the opposite of MT4/MT5
- Server name is listed in your "Welcome to XM" email
- MT4 and MT5 accounts are not interchangeable
- One password works across Members Area and MT4/MT5
- Accounts can freeze after 90 days of inactivity with zero balance
- You can be logged in on multiple devices simultaneously
How to Log Into XM MT4/MT5
1
Open MT4 or MT5
Launch the platform on your desktop, web, or mobile device.
2
Open the Login Window
Click File → Login to Trading Account in the top menu (or tap the "+" icon on mobile under Manage Accounts).
3
Enter Your Account Number, Password, and Server
Use your numeric account number (7-8 digits) — not your email — along with the password you set during registration, and select the correct server from the dropdown.
💡 All three details — account number, server name, and initial setup info — were sent in the "Welcome to XM" email after registration.
4
Click Login
If successful, you'll see live price data streaming and a green connection indicator in the bottom-right corner.
Fixing "Invalid Account" or "No Connection" Errors
This is the most common XM login error. MT4 shows "No connection" or "Invalid account" at the bottom of the screen; MT5 shows similar messages in red. On mobile you'll see "Invalid account" (iOS) or "Authorization failed" (Android).
| Cause | Fix |
| Used email instead of account number |
Re-enter using your numeric MT4/MT5 account number |
| Wrong server selected |
Check your welcome email for the exact server name |
| MT4 account used on MT5 (or vice versa) |
Confirm which platform your account number was issued for |
| Account frozen from 90 days inactivity |
Log in via another active account or register a new one |
ℹ️ Server Not Showing in the Dropdown?
In MT4: File → Open an Account → click Scan at the bottom right. In MT5: File → Open an Account → type "XMGlobal" in the broker search field and let it scan. Once your server appears, close the window and try logging in again.
Logging Into the XM Members Area
The Members Area is where you manage deposits, withdrawals, account settings, and open additional trading accounts. It uses the same login credentials as MT4/MT5 — your numeric account number and password, not your email.
⚠️ Don't Use Your Email for Members Area Login
This catches many new users because most platforms default to email login. Your account number was sent in the "Welcome to XM — Your Account Details" email after registration. If you have multiple trading accounts, any active account number will work to access the Members Area.
Logging Into the XM Mobile App
Unlike MT4/MT5 and the Members Area, the XM mobile app uses your registered email address — not your account number. This is the opposite login method from the rest of the XM ecosystem and is worth remembering if you get an error.
1
Download the App
Get it from Google Play or the App Store if not already installed.
2
Tap Log In
Enter your registered email address and password — not your account number.
3
Complete 2FA if Enabled
If two-factor authentication is active, complete that verification step.
💡 After your first login, go to Settings → Security to enable Face ID or Touch ID for faster future access.
How to Reset Your XM Password
- Go to the XM Members Area login page and click "Forgot your password?"
- Enter your MT4/MT5 account number and your registered email address
- Check your inbox for an email titled "Password Reset Request"
- Click the reset link inside the email
- Enter your new password twice and confirm
This single password change applies to both your Members Area login and your MT4/MT5 trading platform, since XM uses one password across both systems.
Account Frozen Due to Inactivity
XM applies a monthly inactivity fee to trading accounts with no activity — no trades, deposits, withdrawals, or internal transfers — for an extended period. If the balance reaches zero while remaining inactive, the account can become permanently frozen.
🚨 Frozen Accounts Cannot Be Reactivated
Once an account freezes from prolonged inactivity, there is no way to reactivate it — you'll need to open a new account. If you still have at least one other active account, log in through that one and open an additional account from the Members Area instead of starting from scratch.
Frequently Asked Questions — XM Login
Why does XM say "Invalid account" when I try to log in? +
This usually happens for one of four reasons: you entered your email instead of your numeric account number, you selected the wrong server, you're trying to log into MT5 with an MT4 account number (or vice versa), or your account has been frozen due to 90 days of inactivity with a zero balance. Check your welcome email for the correct account number and server name.
Do I log into XM with my email or account number? +
It depends on which platform. For MT4 and MT5, use your numeric account number (typically 7-8 digits), not your email. For the XM Members Area website, you also use your account number. For the XM mobile app specifically, you log in with your registered email address instead — this inconsistency catches many new traders off guard.
How do I find my XM server name? +
Your server name is listed in the "Welcome to XM" email you received after opening your account — it looks something like XMGlobal-Real or XMTrading-Real followed by a number. If you can't find this email, log into your XM Members Area to view your account details, or use the platform's broker search feature to scan for XM servers.
What happens if my XM account is frozen due to inactivity? +
XM applies a monthly inactivity fee after a period with no trading activity, deposits, or withdrawals. If the account balance reaches zero and stays inactive long enough, the account can become permanently frozen and cannot be reactivated — you would need to open a new account. If you still have another active account, you can log into that one and open additional accounts from the Members Area.
How do I reset my XM password? +
Go to the XM Members Area login page and click "Forgot your password?". Enter your MT4/MT5 account number and the email address registered to your account. Check your inbox for a password reset email, click the link inside, and set a new password. This single password works for both your Members Area login and your MT4/MT5 trading platform.
Can I use my MT4 account to log into MT5? +
No. MT4 and MT5 are separate platforms with separate account numbers that are not interchangeable. If you opened an MT4 account, you can only log into MT4 with it. If you want to trade on MT5, you need to open a separate MT5 account from your XM Members Area.
Can I be logged into XM on multiple devices at the same time? +
Yes. You can be logged into the XM Members Area on your computer and the XM mobile app on your phone simultaneously without any conflict. The same applies to running MT4 or MT5 on a desktop while also checking your account through the mobile app.
Why won't the XM app let me log in even with the correct email and password? +
First confirm you're using your registered email (not your account number) since the app login differs from MT4/MT5. If credentials are correct but login still fails, try updating to the latest app version from Google Play or the App Store, clear the app's cache and data, and retry on a stable Wi-Fi connection rather than mobile data.
Still Having Trouble?
Most XM login issues come down to mixing up the account number versus email, or selecting the wrong server. Work through the checklist above before reaching out to support — it resolves the vast majority of cases without needing to wait for a reply.
